Raymond Dionne - Woonsocket

Raymond “Sonny” Dionne, 84, of Kennedy Manor in Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on May 21st at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield.

A lifelong resident of Woonsocket, he was the husband of the late Regina (Scioli) of Milford, Mass., and the son of the late Raymond Dionne Sr. and Elizabeth (Krawczyk) of Woonsocket.

He leaves his three sons, Raymond Dionne and his wife Linda (Magee) of Cumberland, James Dionne of Woonsocket and Steven Dionne of North Smithfield. He is survived by his two brothers, Robert Dionne and his wife Saranne (Simcock) of Glocester, R.I., and John Dionne and his wife Jeannine (Cote) of Woonsocket. He also was the brother of the late Louise Emery of North Smithfield. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Carolann Dionne of North Smithfield, an angel of caring and doing when it mattered most, and his two special grandchildren, Steven Jr. and Regina Dionne. He leaves 22 nieces and nephews.

Proud of his military service, he served four years in the U.S. Army and witnessed first hand the advanced postwar testing of the atomic bomb on the islands of Guam and Eniwetok in the South Pacific. He worked, until retirement, for Woonsocket's Water Department.

A member of Woonsocket's Musicians Union, he played drums, with great gusto, with many local musical groups, including Bob Wilbur's 18-piece Big Band Orchestra.

With a great sense of humor and a comical quip for any occasion, he was in his glory when he had a captive ear for one of his humorous jokes and stories.

His Funeral will be Wednesday, May 28 at 9 A.M. from the Kubaska Funeral Home, 35 Harris Ave., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, North Main & Daniels St., Woonsocket.
