Robert Lynndell Greenleaf - Scituate

Robert Lynndell Greenleaf of North Scituate passed away on May 27 at the age of 89 years. Born on Jan. 10, 1925, he was one of four siblings of the late Sherman Stanley and Mabel (Stevens) Greenleaf.

Mr. Greenleaf was born and raised in Bethel, Maine, graduating from Gould Academy in 1943. He served in the Army as mail clerk for Company A of the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion during World War II.

Upon his discharge, he enrolled at the University of Maine under the GI Bill. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and government in 1950, and began his teaching career in Cornish, Maine. From there, he was Social Studies Department Head at Farmington, Maine, for 11 years, where the National Honor Society chapter was named in his honor.

In 1963, he moved with his family to Scituate, R. I., and became Chairman of the History Department at Ponaganset High School before retiring in 1986. He was a past president of R.I. Chapter for the National Alliance for Mentally Ill.

In 1953, Mr. Greenleaf married Anne Elizabeth Monzert, with whom he raised three children. Mr. and Mrs. Greenleaf recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Besides his wife he is survived by son, Stephen L. Greenleaf of Rumford, wife Joanne, and their two sons, Ryan and Eric; daughter, Nancy E. Greenleaf of Providence; and son, Mark S. Greenleaf of Foster, wife Lori, and their three children Rachel, Elizabeth and Alan. He was brother to the late Arlene Brown, John and Eldon Greenleaf, all of Bethel, Maine. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10 A.M. in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt. 44) Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation is Friday from 4-7 P.M.
