Betty B. Sale - Cumberland

Betty B. Sale, 99, of Old Diamond Hill Road passed away Monday, June 30 in the Emerald Bay Manor surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Ernest W. Sale. Born in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Anne (Kemna) Bewley. She has resided in Cumberland for the past four years, previously residing in Florida.

She attained her Master’s degree in Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich. She was a teacher in the Detroit Public School System and in Berkeley Heights, N.J.

Betty enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, world travel and doing volunteer work until she was well into her 80’s. She loved sharing her knowledge and stories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, William Sale and his wife Dianne of Raynham, Mass.; and two daughters, Barbara Horley and her husband William of Cumberland and Patricia Blocker and her husband DeWayne of Wellston, Okla. She also leaves nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 9:30 A.M. in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Hwy., Cumberland, RI 02864. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to a favorite charity.
