Frederick Joseph Gibbons - Lincoln

Frederick Joseph Gibbons, formerly of Naples, Fla., and Lincoln, R.I., died peacefully on January 15, 2015. He was 77.

Born in Peabody, Mass., he was the son of the late Patrick and Cecilia (Gilhooly) Gibbons of Ireland, and the cherished brother of George F. Gibbons of Naples, Fla., and Wolfeboro, N.H., and the late James P. Gibbons of Salem, Mass.

Frederick was the beloved father of six: Patrick Gibbons of Providence, R.I., Jennifer Gibbons of Baltimore, Md., Rebecca Powell and her husband David of Longmeadow, Mass., Vanessa Teitelbaum and her husband Joshua of Bethesda, Md., Adrienne Oehlers and her husband Stephen of Springfield, Ohio, and Mary Kay McGarr and her husband Michael of San Jose, Calif. He was the devoted grandfather of eight, Campbell Powell, Katherine and David Teitelbaum, Madeleine, Ben, Evie and Fortunate Oehlers, and Maya McGarr. He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews.

Frederick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy (1954-1958). He was a graduate of Peabody High School (1954) and Merrimack College (1963). He was an accomplished accountant and director of purchasing in the technology industry for many years. He was then the longtime owner of Washington Hill Liquors in Lincoln, R.I. He was a member of Lincoln Country Club and Eagle Creek Country Club, Naples, Fla.

Frederick enjoyed retirement in Naples, Fla., before moving last year to Holyoke, Mass. He lived life to the fullest, loving jazz and big band music, golf, a good meal and a Manhattan, the Red Sox and the Patriots, but above all, he loved and was fiercely devoted to his family.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Providence Place, 5 Gamelin St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Memorial donations may be made to the Providence Place Legacy Fund at the address above.
