Groom ends wedding night with assault charge in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A Cranston man ended his wedding night with charges of assault, vandalism and disorderly conduct following a fight with staff members at the North Smithfield restaurant where he and his new wife were holding their reception.

Police were called to The Pines Restaurant on Saturday, June 17 to find a large crowd of people "trying to detain and calm down" Frank Redding, 32, of Cranston.

According to reports, the trouble began when Redding got into an argument with a family member outside the facility. He was then confronted by management for consuming alcohol not sold at the inside bar and chased a staff member back into the building, threatening to kill him, according to police.

Back inside, Redding reportedly began looking for that staff member, and started breaking bottles and throwing chairs when he could not find him. Police say he threatened to kill other staff members and assaulted another employee.
