Pool & Fitness Center receives $3,000 grant from SSLF

NORTH PROVIDENCE – The North Providence Pool & Fitness Center at 1810 Mineral Spring Avenue has been selected again as a recipient of a $3,000 grant from the Swimming Saves Lives Foundation, which awarded grants to 38 adult learn-to-swim programs throughout the country.

The purpose of the SSLF is to advocate and raise awareness and serve as a resource for programs providing adult learn-to-swim lessons. Through generous contributions, SSLF has awarded more than $320,000 in grants and resources to these programs.

Amanda Knuth became a member of the U.S. Masters Swimming Foundation in December 2015, and this allowed her to start the U.S. Masters competitive swim program at the Pool & Fitness Center, as well as offer group and private adult swim lessons.

“With the funds from the grant, we were able to offer financial assistance to participants to cover the expense of the program,” said Knuth. “We look forward to offering the same opportunity again this year.”

The Pool & Fitness Center is still offering swimmers ages 18 and older a chance to get a taste of competitive swimming on its U.S. Masters program, which meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. This program is designed to provide instructional and structured workouts for stroke enhancement and swim techniques.

Registration for adult group lessons, along with youth swim lessons, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 a.m. Spots are limited.
