N.S. senior transit program delayed

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A program aimed at providing North Smithfield seniors with free rides to and from local destinations such as supermarkets through the winter has been delayed.

The federal Department of Elderly Affairs has provided a grant to fund the pilot program, but the town had issues with an initial bid request put out in December.

“We had some confusion in the request and submissions that we couldn’t sort out without rebid,” explained Town Administrator Gary Ezovski.

The request for bids on transportation services to the town’s five housing complexes has been re-advertised.
