Woonsocket YMCA, Milford Federal win hoop championships

WOONSOCKET – Woonsocket YMCA and Milford Federal recently captured their division’s championships in the finals of the Woonsocket YMCA Youth Basketball League playoffs, with the Woonsocket YMCA rolling past the Tyra Club, 78-67, in the Senior Division title game and Milford Federal posting a 35-29 win over Navigant Credit Union in the Junior Division.

Dwayne O’Hagan, who was the league’s leading scorer, capped a magnificent season by netting a game-high 52 points to lead the Woonsocket YMCA to its championship. Nelson Mojica also scored 10 points and Devaughan Nealy added eight for the winners, while the Tyra Club’s top three scorers were Marcus Harmon (30 points), Patrick Porabyk (24), and Abner Rodriguez (eight).

Andre Bell’s game-high 19 points and Neveah Caro’s eight accounted for most of the scoring in Milford Federal’s victory. Navigant was guided by Jermaine Wynkoop’s 12 points and Isaiah Figueroa’s eight.
