Pollock seeks election to District 2 School Committee seat

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Town resident Charles Pollock Jr. has announced that he will seek election to the North Providence School Committee District 2 seat, which is currently held by Donald Cataldi. The longtime school board member has said he won’t seek re-election.

Pollock said in a news release he has devoted his entire life to public service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1986, receiving an honorable discharge. He then joined the North Providence Fire Department as a call firefighter from 1986 to 1988. He continued his work in fire service and for the past 23 years has served as a Cranston firefighter. He currently holds the rank of rescue captain.

Pollock is also active with a number of boards, commissions, and organizations. He serves on the North Providence Zoning Board and was recently elected chairman of the board. Additionally, he was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Rhode Island Military Organization. The organization’s main objective is running the military lounge at T.F. Green Airport, a service that has grown dramatically over the past few years. The all-volunteer board has nonprofit status.

Pollock said he is a proud member of two great organizations within the town of North Providence: the Knights of Columbus Bouffard Consult and the Lymansville VFW.

“I believe that every child deserves the best education, in the safest, most learning conducive environment possible,” said Pollock.

He said his education and experience, especially in the areas of public service and public safety, make him a strong candidate.

“I will continually strive to ensure that our children and teachers are safe and secure, and our children are attending the best schools with the best resources at their disposal so that they may enter post-secondary education or the workforce with phenomenal preparation,” he added.
