Benros, Silveira lead local runners at Guinness Irish 5K

PAWTUCKET – Pawtucket’s John Benros and Fernando Silveira placed in the top 10 and were the top two finishers in the men’s ages 40-49 division at last Saturday morning’s Guinness Irish 5K that was held in downtown Pawtucket.

Benros placed seventh in a time of 19:32.6 and Silveira was two spots behind him in 19:40.7. The race’s winner was Brendan Meehan of Brighton, Mass., who clocked a 16:20 time that was 64 seconds faster than the next finisher, East Providence’s Rob Gallagher.

The women’s winner was Riverside’s Andrea Gregory, who took 14th overall in 20:18.5, and the city’s top female finisher was Erin Anthony, who was 60th overall and the eighth fastest female.

The race, which attracted 556 participants, is part of the Guinness Tour De Patrick, a series in Rhode Island that includes the St. Pat’s 5K in Providence and the Shamrock Shuffle 5K in North Kingstown.
