Bloodworth, Pontier fall in semis of N.E. Golden Gloves boxing tournament

LOWELL, Mass. – Miles Bloodworth and Kevin Pontier of the Woonsocket Boxing Club recently lost their opening matches of the New England Golden Gloves Championships to Connecticut fighters at the 72nd annual event that was held at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

In the Open Division’s junior welterweight (141 pounds) division, Bloodworth dropped a 4-1 decision to Sharad Collier of Hartford, Conn., and in the Novice Division’s middleweight (165 pounds) class, Pontier suffered a 5-0 loss to Makenson Barjon of Bridgeport, Conn. Both Collier went on to capture New England championships.

Bloodworth and Pontier had captured championships at last month’s 55th annual Southern New England Golden Gloves tournament in Fall River, Mass.
