Former Mount star Blais earns rookie honors with D-III Elmira College men’s hockey team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Woonsocket’s Ryan Blais, a freshman on the Division III Elmira College men’s ice hockey team, was recently named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Rookie of the Week, as well as on the UCHC’s All-Rookie Team.

Blais, who was second among UCHC freshmen and third among blueliners in scoring (two goals and 19 assists in 27 games) this season, played a pivotal role in E.C.’s 5-1 victory over Chatham that clinched a spot in the inaugural UCHC Tournament for the Soaring Eagles. The freshman defenseman tallied a season-high three assists, including a helper on the game-winning goal in the second period, and he was also a part of a defensive unit that held the Cougars to one goal on 22 shots on their home ice.

Blais graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy in 2014 and spent the next three seasons in the U.S. Premier Hockey League. He is also a member of the E.C. men’s golf team.

In the title game of the inaugural UCHC tournament, the 5th-seeded Soaring Eagles suffered an 8-3 loss to top-seeded Utica College. The loss dropped their record to 15-10-3.
