Marie W Pereira – Killingly, Conn.

Marie W (Oldham) Pereira, 95, of Killingly, Conn., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 11, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Conn. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Pereira for 54 years. Born in Pawtucket, Mrs. Pereira was the daughter of the late Walter and Anne (O'Hara) Oldham.

Marie was a longtime resident of Cumberland, R.I., first on Titus Street and then moving to her home on Orchard Drive, where she lived for almost 50 years. Marie and her husband moved to Killingly in 2004 to live with her daughter Susan (Aldworth) Blasi.

Prior to her retirement, Marie had been employed for many years by the Hasbro Corp. of Pawtucket as a quality control technician and by the former Grace Holmes company in Cumberland until their closing.

Caring for her family was always her main focus, and started very early when her mother passed away and Marie at age 12, along with her older sister Kay, took on the cooking and cleaning for the family as well as the care of her younger brothers. Her cooking and baking improved through the years and everyone in the family looked forward to all the special treats that the holidays brought out – especially her delicious chocolate pies.

Marie and her husband both loved to travel and they took part in many bus trips to Florida, New England, Canada and Pennsylvania Dutch Country. They also loved taking Caribbean cruises to a variety of islands. Marie loved the Red Sox since the days of Ted Williams, and spent many hours watching the games. The UConn women's basketball team was also something she enjoyed from her adopted state.

Besides her husband and daughter, Marie is survived by her grandchildren Kevin Blasi and his wife, Jill, of Litchfield, Conn., Ryan Blasi of Mont Vernon, N.H., and Jennifer Aldworth of Ludlow, Mass. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Kyana, Jaden, Liliana, and Elise who were the source of so much love, joy, and laughter. Marie was predeceased by her first husband, James Aldworth, her son, Edward Aldworth, her sister, Catherine Coe, and her brothers Walter and Raymond Oldham.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Pereira's Life Celebration beginning with visiting hours on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Services continue Friday, March 16 at 10 a.m., from the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
