St. Mary’s Home for Children planning recognition event April 26

NORTH PROVIDENCE – In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, St. Mary’s Home for Children at 420 Fruit Hill Ave. is honoring Shriners of Rhode Island Charities Trust and volunteer group The DAMES (Dinner and More Exciting Surprises) for their contributions to children.

On Thursday, April 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Café Nuovo in Providence, the Children’s Friendship Award will be presented. The award is given to an individual or company displaying unending dedication to the well-being of children and demonstrating kind acts of philanthropy and volunteerism to honor the mission of St. Mary’s Home for Children.

The Shriners of Rhode Island Charities Trust has been a longtime supporter of the agency and provides opportunities for children in the state. The DAMES is composed of six professional women who work with the Hills House, a group of eight teenage girls, providing mentorship while hosting dinners and activities.

Alison Bologna of Shri Yoga is emcee of the event. Shri Yoga provides yoga to St. Mary’s clients and staff on a weekly basis. The event is sponsored by Navigant Credit Union.

Tickets for the evening, which includes hors d’oeuvres, are $90 per person (cash bar). Multiple sponsorship opportunities are available. Call Susan DeRita at 401-353-3900, ext. 262, email sderita@smhfc.org, or visit www.smhfc.org .
