Martone announces run for District 3 council seat

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Democrat Mario Martone has announced his candidacy for the Town Council seat in District 3, currently held by Council President Dino Autiello, who will run at-large.

“While some might consider me a relatively new resident to North Providence, having purchased a home with my wife in the town in 2015, my ties to the town run wide and deep,” said Martone in a release.

“Besides my mother being raised in the town, I have numerous family members who have been lifelong residents of North Providence. My family and I never lost touch with the town, its people, its government and its needs.”

As a participant in youth sports growing up, Martone said he is proud to say he played and coached for North Providence East Little League and the North Providence Youth Soccer Association. He also participated in and supported CYO basketball for his parish, St. Anthony Church.

He is currently an associate city solicitor in Providence, serves on the North Providence Zoning Board, and is legal counsel to the North Providence OPEB Board.

“I look forward to utilizing the knowledge I have acquired and the experiences I have had in my legal career to make North Providence and even better place to live for its residents,” he said.

If elected, he intends to focus on three main areas during the campaign and at the outset of his first term: Enhancing and promoting youth sports and facilities; enhancing the economic growth in town and doing what he can to make the town as attractive as possible to new businesses and new residents; and focusing on the elderly residents of the town, ensuring that officials provide seniors with the very best services and programming.

Martone promised that, if elected, he will work his hardest for the residents of the town and do what he can to address any concerns they have.
