Arnold Mills Parade Association announces grand marshal

william Dennen, of Cumberland, pictured with his dog Daisy, will be the grand marshal of the 92nd Arnold Mills Fourth of July Parade.

CUMBERLAND – The Arnold Mills Parade Association, the nonprofit responsible for the Fourth of July festivities in Cumberland since 1964, has selected William Dennen, longtime treasurer of the association, as the 2018 grand marshal for the 92nd parade.

Dennen has been a member of the association for 43 years and has served as treasurer for 32 years. He and his wife, Barbara, have three children, William, a member of the Cumberland School Committee, Susan, who designed the parade logo, and Karen, all of whom have been frequent participants in the parade, often spoofing national politicians.

Dennen worked at Ann & Hope for 50 years and also delivers The Valley Breeze in his “spare time,” states a release. He and his two granddaughters, of his six grandchildren, will ride in the grand marshal car. If there’s room, expect to also see grand-dogs Daisy and Lucy riding along.

“Bill is a great person to honor this year. He is a very humble man,” said Joyce Hindle Koutsogiane, chairwoman of the parade. “We are pleased to finally give him the recognition that he truly deserves.”

Dennen joins other members of the association who have also been named grand marshal, including the late John McLaughlin, H. Seymour “Hank” Wiley, Warren Ziegler, Clinton Johnson and David Cargill.
