Ex-Clippers’ ace pitcher Nelson graduates with conference softball honors at Simmons College

WINTHROP, Mass. – Cumberland's Juliet Nelson recently wrapped up her outstanding career on the Simmons College softball team by earning Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference Second-Team honors.

Nelson, a 2014 graduate of Cumberland High who was a Second-Team All-State pitcher for the Clippers, missed parts of the last two seasons with injuries, but came back with an excellent spring. The senior starting pitcher and team captain flirted with the league lead in victories all year long before finishing second in the GNAC with a 14-8 record (10-3 in league games) and leading the circuit with 27 appearances.

She also ranked second in starts (21), fourth in innings pitched (123 2/3) and complete games (15), sixth in shutouts (three), seventh in strikeouts (67), and eighth in earned run average (2.83) and opponents' batting average (.269).

Nelson will graduate ranking fourth among Simmons career leaders in victories (26), complete games (27), and appearances (54), as well as fifth in ERA (3.12), games started (42), innings pitched (256), and strikeouts (114). She also stands second with just 1.42 bases on balls allowed per seven innings pitched and sixth in opponents batting average (.297).
