Dunkin' store employees track down thief

PAWTUCKET – City police arrested a man they say robbed a Dunkin' Donuts store on Cedar Street Wednesday, June 6, but it may not have been possible without the work of two store employees.

At around 9:30 a.m., police responded to the coffee shop at at 105 Cedar St., for a reported robbery. A clerk reported that the suspect had been a customer in the store for about two hours and approached the service counter for a second time. The suspect then reached into the cash register and took an unknown amount of cash and fled the store on foot. Two staff members gave chase, ultimately catching the suspect a short distance away at Church Street at Park Place. In detaining the suspect, one of the staff members, a 22-year-old male, was stabbed in the neck with a pen by the suspect. The victim sustained a minor injury which was treated on scene by Pawtucket rescue personnel.

The suspect, Julio Santana, 22, of 26 Dayton St. in Worcester, Mass., was taken into custody and charged with felony assault, larceny under $1,500, and disorderly conduct. He was set to be arraigned in District Court on Thursday.
