Jean places 16th in triple jump at N.E. track meet

DURHAM, N.H. – Recently graduated North Providence High senior Ralph Jean wrapped up his superb high school track and field career at last Saturday afternoon’s New England Championships at the University of New Hampshire by placing 16th out of 31 athletes in the triple jump.

Jean, who also starred on last year’s boys’ soccer team and became the first NP athlete in school history to claim an outdoor state title at the RIIL Championships on June 2 at Brown University by delivering a school-record leap of 43 feet, 10½ inches, finished 16th by producing a leap of 42-8¾ on his second of three attempts. His first jump was 40-6¼ and his final one was 42-4¼.

The cut to reach the final round of eight was 44-7¾, and the winner was Maine state champion Cayden Spencer-Thompson, who aired out a leap of 48-3¾.
