CYLAX sends five teams on road for RIYLL playoffs

Quarterfinal round takes place this week

WARWICK – Five teams from the Cumberland Youth Lacrosse Association will hit the road this week for their quarterfinal-round games in the Rhode Island Youth Lacrosse League playoffs.

The boys' teams who will be in action are the 5/6 D1 team, which will play East Greenwich, and the 7/8 D1 team, which will visit North Kingstown. For the girls, the 5/6 D1 team will take on Burrillville, the 5/6 D2 team will face East Providence, and the 7/8 D1 team will battle East Bay.

The semifinals and finals will be held at Providence Country Day's complex in East Providence.

Only two of those teams were able to win their regular-season finales last Saturday, the boys 7/8 D1 team, which received goals from Garrett Clare, Brock Meomartino, and Luke Belanger in a 3-0 win over East Greenwich at Diamond Hill Park, and the girls' 7/8 D1 squad, which took an 11-10 thriller from Providence at Moses Brown School.

Down by a 7-3 score at halftime, Cumberland came back to tie the score, and with the game still knotted at 10-10, Sarah DeSousa netted her fourth goal of the game to win the contest. Emma Wymes also had a big game for Cumberland with four goals and as many assists, Hannah Prescott added two goals, and Grace Leonard scored one.
