Thanks to helpers of Relay For Life

Friday, June 23, marked the first Northern R.I. Relay For Life held at the Smithfield High School. With over 30 fundraising teams hailing from the communities of Smithfield, Lincoln, Cumberland and Burrillville, the daytime Relay event has raised over $70,000 to help support research and cancer resources/programs for the American Cancer Society.

First we’d like to thank all of our business and individual sponsors. Without their monetary support, we could not channel the majority of our fundraising dollars towards our goal of eradicating cancer and supporting our cancer survivors.

We would also like to give special thanks to our Opening Ceremony guest speakers, Smithfield state Rep. Tom Winfield and Cumberland Mayor and cancer survivor Bill Murray. Also speaking during our Fight Back Ceremony were cancer survivors Tina Pedersen (also 2018 Ms. Wheelchair R.I.) and local author Jill Fague. Their inspirational words helped make the ceremonies very memorable.

A special thank you to our Master of Ceremonies Ralph Boudreau for introducing our long list of amazing entertainers who kept the crowd going throughout the day. We would like to acknowledge the gift cards, goods and certificates from our supportive local restaurants and businesses donated for our tremendous raffle table and our fantastic bingo events. Also special thanks to our volunteer photographers Amanda Dair, Rebecca Bernardo and Ethan Hartley. They captured unforgettable moments from Relay 2018 for all our participants to share. Also we’d like to extend a special thanks to Russ Masse who offered free massages for the tireless Relayers who walked the track.

Lastly we want to thank all the restaurants and businesses who donated the food and drink to provide lunch and dinner for our cancer survivors and their caregivers. Their generosity helps us to honor the survivors for whom we celebrate, we support and we remember during this special annual Relay For Life event.

The R.I. Northern Relay For Life would not be a success without our very generous donors who helped us strive for our goal of $85,000. It is not too late to help us reach this goal before Aug. 31. If you would like to donate to our Relay, please go to www.relayforlife.org/northernri and make a donation. If you’d like to be involved in the Northern R.I. Relay For Life celebration in June 2019, please contact us through our website and/or Facebook page.
