Woonsocket man killed in motorcycle crash

PAWTUCKET – A Woonsocket man was killed while riding his motorcycle on Interstate 95 in Pawtucket late Thursday night, according to information released by state police.

According to police, Carlos Carrasquillo Baez, 29, of 69 Arnold St., was traveling south in the area of the Lonsdale Avenue exit when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle at approximately 9:25 p.m. Baez was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and was not wearing a helmet when he was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe head injuries. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

According to RIDOT, this is the 12th motorcycle fatality to occur in Rhode Island this year. That number is up from 2017, when only five motorcycle crashes occurred between January 1 and July 31.

State police are recommending that all motorcyclists wear helmets and take other safety precautions and that drivers of other vehicles be watchful for motorcycles on the road.
