Forum with education commissioner canceled

UPDATE: The forum has been called off by the commissioner's office, with no new date set.

PAWTUCKET – All are welcome to Nathanael Greene Elementary for a community forum event, hosted by Commissioner of Education for Rhode Island Department of Education Ken Wagner on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

During the event, which will begin at 4 p.m. at the school’s campus at 285 Smithfield Ave., Wagner is expected to discuss the state’s priorities and goals in terms of education, and will likely discuss newly renovated schools and how they’re making an impact, Pawtucket school officials said.

A question-and-answer session will be held at the event, and the purpose of the community forum is to keep Pawtucket and Rhode Island residents at large “in the loop” about what’s next in primary and secondary education in the state, school officials said.

“We encourage Pawtucket residents to attend the community forum to learn more about how we continue to put students first, about opportunities in the district and how we can continue to expand the progress made in the district for our children,” said Supt. Patti DiCenso.
