Lonely Rover? Send Happy Tailz on over

Happy Tailz owner and professional licensed pet sitter Maureen Dunn and her furry friend, Pippin.

SMITHFIELD – Offering reliable and professional dog care and pet sitting services, Maureen Dunn of Smithfield began watching and walking dogs more than 20 years ago, but began Happy Tailz in December after becoming licensed and bonded by the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters.

Dunn currently serves several repeat customers, doing drop-in visits to play with, walk and give attention to pups. Visits can include feeding or administering medicine as well.

“Sometimes, I just come over to play with them or to show them affection,” Dunn said.

Dunn, who cares for both dogs and cats, pet sat for years before she decided to become licensed and bonded. She said the insurance adds to the sense of security and the license adds to the trust to letting her care for pets.

Doing home visits for dogs keeps them at ease and helps build a trusting relationship between Dunn and the pet. She said it is especially important for rescues that may need a little extra care.

“What’s best about my services is that they are done from the comfort of your own home,” Dunn said.

She will send pictures and a summary to owners during the visit, setting them at ease by letting them know that their furry friend is doing well. That way, “they always know what is going on,” she said.

Happy Tailz offers sessions in half-hour increments, which Dunn finds is enough for a long walk and some play time.

Dunn said over the years, she’s worked with more than 15 pets on a consistent, regular basis. Based out of Smithfield, Dunn said she will travel anywhere in a 20-mile radius, going as far north as southern Massachusetts, and south to Providence.

Sometimes preferring the company of animals, Dunn said she loves spending time with her “four-footed friends.” She shares her home with her Jack Russell/Brussels Griffon mix, Kit, who she said is like a child that never grows up.
