Family of woman killed near Kennedy Manor suing city

WOONSOCKET – The family of a Woonsocket woman hit by a car on Clinton Street near Kennedy Manor in November is suing the city for damages after she died in the hospital later that week.

Marian Morrow, 64, was struck by a car on Nov. 5 and died at Rhode Island Hospital a few days later. While initial police reports indicated she was crossing the street in front of Walgreens at the time of the accident, a claim submitted to the city in December says Morrow was actually walking on the sidewalk when the leg of her walker went into a hole, causing her to fall into the street. Attorney R. Andrew Pelletier is bringing the suit, which was submitted to the City Council on Dec. 14.

On Monday, the council declined to take any action on the suit at the recommendation of City Solicitor John DeSimone, who suggested it be referred to the Rhode Island Interlocal Trust. The Trust provides coverage for such claims under the city’s insurance policy.
