WOONSOCKET – Woonsocket High sophomore Logan Coles, who is a thrower on the Villa Novan boys’ indoor track and field team, entered 2019 as the nation’s fourth-ranked high school weight thrower, thanks to his throw of 69 feet, 2½ inches earlier this season.

The country’s top-ranked thrower is Trey Knight of Ridgefield, Wash., whose best throw this winter is 80-2½, and tied for second place with 71-4 throws are Classical High senior Jacob Furland and Tanner Duffin of Chamblee, Ga.

Last year, Coles became the first freshman in Woonsocket High history to earn All-American honors, as he placed fifth in the hammer at the New Balance National Outdoor Track & Field Championships at North Carolina A&T University.

Also ranked in the top 20 nationally on the girls’ side in the weight is senior Marissa Henley, whose throw of 47-7¾ has her ranked 16th.
