Bike ride and apple picking Sept. 26

JOHNSTON – The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council will host a bike ride to Dame Farm in Johnston for some apple picking on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m.

The group will leave from Riverside Park in Providence and travel along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway bike path. Where the paved path ends in Johnston, they will travel along Greenville Avenue, passing by many of Johnston’s scenic farms and Snake Den State Park. Be sure to bring a backpack or basket to bring apples home. This ride is a 14-mile round trip, with some steep hills, and will take about four hours.

This bike ride is part of the 2020 “Explore the Woonasquatucket” recreational series, which offers guided tours of scenic and historic sites throughout the Woonasquatucket River watershed, with paddle trips, hikes, and bike rides – while following state and city COVID-19 guidelines.

Participants must bring their own bike, wear a helmet, bring/wear a mask and be prepared for some rolling hills.

Meet up location/parking: 50 Aleppo St., Providence.

Participants are required to pre-register. Visit wrwc.org/events to register for this ride and to see the full “Explore the Woonasquatucket” recreational series schedule.
